Highlights for the 2006 9-10 All-Star Team

9-10 All-Stars

Game 3 (July 3)

The West Plains Little League All-Stars lost to North Spokane 7-6 in 8 innings on Monday eliminating the 9-10 All-Star team from the tournament.

North Spokane scored 5 runs in the first two innings and took a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Not ready to call it a season just yet, West Plains rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game on a two out, two run double by Brent Schaefer.

In the seventh inning, North Spokane took a one run lead only to have West Plains come back and tie the game in the bottom of the seventh.

In the eighth inning, with runners on first and third and one out, West Plains attempted to turn a double play, and on a bang-bang play at first base, the North Spokane batter was called safe allowing the winning run to score.

Sawyer Simms overcame a shaky start to strike out 11 in his six innings of work.

Offensively, Nathan Kelly led the West Plains All-Stars going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Alex Kelly and Schaefer each finished with two hits.

Game 2 (July 1)

Walla Walla Valley scored 4 runs in the first inning and went on to an easy 15-2 victory in the second round of the 9-10 year-old All-Star tournament in Walla Walla.

In the bottom of the first, West Plains answered with a run of their own, but the Walla Walla Valley bats proved to be too much as they scored 7 times in the third and added 6 more in the fourth.

Sawyer Simms led West Plains offensively going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Game 1 (June 30)

West Plains Little League 9-10 All-Stars kicked of the 2006 District 5 9-10 All-Star tournament with a 12-1 win over the North Spokane Mead All-Star Team.

West Plains got off to a good start scoring six runs in the first inning and never looking back.

Sawyer Simms threw a 6 inning complete game 2 hitter for West Plains striking out 12. He was backed up in the field by two outstanding diving catches. Center fielder Taylor Dormier and right fielder Josh Arthur each made full extended diving catches to back up Simms quality effort.

Offensively, West Plains was lead by Noah Zieman's 4-for-4 performance at the plate which included a 3 run double and him scoring 3 runs. Dormier went 1-for-1 at the plate with 3 walks and 3 runs scored.

Brent Shaefer was 2-for-4 with 2 runs and Chea Brown went 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored. Simms also added 2 hits to the WPLL offensive attack.

He Is Just a Little Boy
He stands at the plate with his heart pounding fast.
The bases are loaded, the die has been cast.
Mom and Dad cannot help him, he stand all alone.
A hit at this moment would send the team home.
The ball meets the plate, he swings and he misses.
There's a groan from the crowd, with some boos and hisses.
A thoughtless voice cries, "Strike out the bum"
Tears fill his eyes, the game's no longer fun.
So open your heart and give him a break,
For it's moments like this, a man you can make.
Please keep this in mind, when you hear someone forget,
he is just a little boy, and not a man yet.
