West Plains Finishes 3rd

The West Plains All-Stars wrapped up the District 5 All-Star tournament with a third place finish after loosing to the Spokane South All-Stars 18-5 on Monday.

West Plains held a 4-3 lead going into the top of the 4th inning before Spokane South rallied for 15 runs on 10 hits, 2 walks and several WPLL errors.

Spokane South's rally started against Adam Paulson (2-1) who had defeated them 8-2 two days earlier and was pitching for the third time in less than a week. Austin Kelly relieved to get the final two outs.

West Plains scored once in the bottom of the fourth, but it was not enough to keep the 10-run rule from comming into effect and ending the game. The WPLL All-Stars loaded the bases every inning, but managed to plate only 5 runs.

West Plains finished the tournament with a 3-2 record and a third place finish behind Walla Walla Valley and Spokane South.

West Plains falls to Host Walla Walla Valley

The West Plains 9-10 All-Stars gave up 12 second inning runs and went on to lose to Walla Walla Valley All-Stars 14-0 in 4 innings in the District 5 semi-final game at Walla Walla.

Walla Walla Valley mixed two hits with 5 WPLL walks and 5 West Plain's errors to score their runs in the second inning.

Sawyer Simms and Austin Kelly each pitched 1 inning of scoreless releif for the West Plains All-Stars.

The 9 and 10 year-olds from Cheney, Medical Lake and Airway Heights will play Spokane South All-Stars again on Monday at 5:30 in Walla Walla in a loser-out game. The winner of the Monday game will have to bounce back and beat Walla Walla Valley twice on Tuesday in order to make the state tournament.

West Plains 9-10s win again

The West Plains 9-10 Little League All-Star team improved to 3-0 in the District 5 tournament with an 8-2 victory over the Spokane South All-Star team on Friday night.

Adam Paulson pitched the All-Stars into the distict semi-final game with a complete game 3 hitter. Pauson struck out 8 in winning for the second time at the tournament.

Paulson's catcher Jake Wesselman led the WPLL offense going 3-for-4 with a double, 2 singles and 2 runs scored.

The WPLL team use a balanced offense and defense to knock off the 1-0 South team. The WPLL defense only committed 2 errors behind Paulson.

West Plains will now play in the Semi-Final game against Walla Walla Valley on Sunday at 4:30.

9-10s Improve to 2-0

The West Plains Little League 9-10 Year-Old All-Star team improved to 2-0 in the District 5 tournament with a 7-4 victory over Asotin County on Wednesday down in Walla Walla.

WPLL built a 7-2 lead behind the strong pitching of Zeb Klemke. Klemke held the Asotin County bats in check, entering the top of the sixth inning with a 5 run lead. However, Asotin County rallied to score two runs and had runners on first and second with only one out before Klemke was relieved by Connor Netz for the final two outs of the game. Connor walked the first batter to load the bases before getting the last two outs to earn the save.

Coach Rob Beamer credits second baseman Sawyer Simms and center fielder Anton King with each making two great defensive plays in the top of the sixth to help hold the lead. The WPLL defense was tough all day only making 3 errors.

The WPLL offense was led by Adam Paulson who went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and scored 2 runs and Robbie Cook who went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and scored twice.

Klemke finished the game with 4 strike outs in his 5 1/3 innings of work to earn the win for WPLL All-Stars who are now 2-0 in the double elimination tournament.

West Plains will next play on Friday night (July 8) at 6:30 down in Walla Walla. They will take on Spokane South Little League. SSLL had a first round bye before beating Walla Walla Valley 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th inning on Tuesday.

9-10s Open With a Win

The West Plains Little League 9-10 Year-Old All-Star team opened the District 5 Tournament with a dramatic 12-11 come-from-behind win over Spokane North.

Down 11-10 headed into the bottom of the sixth, Jake Wesselman lead off the inning with a singe and was followed by an Adam Paulson's hard ground ball into the hole at short that was officially ruled an error on the short stop. With two on and nobody out, Austin Kelly doubled to score the tying run and move Paulson to third. Paulson scored the winning run a pitch later on a wild pitch.

Paulson pitched the whole game for WPLL, striking out 8 and walking 10.

The WPLL offense which out hit Spokane North 13-7 was led by Connor Netz 3-for-4 with 2 runs and Paulson 3-for-4 with an RBI and 2 Runs.

Kelly finished the game going 2-for-4 and Wesselman was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Anton King and Zeb Klemke combined to score 5 runs for the WPLL All-Stars who will face Asotin County today (July 6th) at 6:30 down in Walla Walla.
